Pretty good with ones and zeroes. Retired DJ. Highkey and lowkey as hell.
Maybe we can wait in line for gas too like in the 1970s.

I really wonder how many of these assholes actually believe the things they’re saying vs. how many know they’re just making shit up to justify those government contract dollars.

I hope this event is titled “the biggest losers on the Internet are out to prove it to you” because wow.

I know it's a long shot, but I don't suppose there's a chance we'll see more Velveteen audiobooks? For a limited release this seems super unlikely, but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Someone should tell studio execs that if they don’t explain the creatures, this leaves them an opening to release an origin story where Jared Leto plays a particularly beleaguered creature as we learn what inane situation drove it to violence.

This is in the running for my favorite vampire film. It doesn't hurt that I had kind of a crush on Diamondback back in the day either.

It's still great, though the fact that Angela is just careening through life, as teens do, and Jordan has a single brain cell makes a lot of it like "oh girl what are you _doing_?" It's a remarkably accurate and honest show about teens.

Yeah but you're a sensible person who understands that being community-first will ensure growth because people will want to be here.

Yeah, I think Bluesky the company hopes to make money by selling indexing services or simply angling for a buyout. But no one will want that data until there's enough of it, so in the short term they're just continuing to try and grow their userbase.

Of course this also means they have a vested interest in not curating their community, because you can't have a big-world index if you keep kicking people out. Which is backed up by their DIY approach to moderation.

In this blog post they've implied how they plan to make money: whtwnd.com/bnewbold.net....
"[W]e think big full-network indices are basically inevitable. . . somebody will build a Google Search, [etc]. . . atproto helps turn these extensions and "views" into commodity API services."

This is a reply to Christine Lemmer-Webber's thoughtful (and widely read) "How decentralized is Bluesky really?" blog post. I am so happy and grateful that Christine took the time to write up her tho...

I'm sure she knows this, but it's always good to remember that astronauts never give up. Even when you're stuck in a lake in a cavern in a hole in a cave, on a distant red planet and you're not feeling brave...

I think most people are far too invested in the status quo to imagine that anything might upset that. And I think that’s why the numbers regarding sustainable action exist. You need to make resistance the new normal on a societal level. Which always happens way too late basically by definition.

I like that they aren’t lining up to sell my personal data to the highest bidder like a dev has implied is the intent here, but the high school drama that occurs between admins on the regular is a whole thing. Honestly I don’t think there is currently any good platform. It’s just a choice of issues.
