Overnight, the U.S. House passed a budget bill that would slash Medicaid, SNAP and the ACA marketplace -- and shower the wealthiest Americans with big tax breaks. Read Executive Director Anne Discher's statement here: www.commongoodiowa.org/policy-areas...

No one on #Medicaid is safe from harmful cuts proposed by Congressional Republicans, but they seem most focused on taking coverage away from low-income adults who gained access to Medicaid under the ACA—a remarkable success that cut Iowa's uninsured rate in half.

Over 180,000 Iowans depend on Medicaid expansion for the health care they need to take care of themselves and stay in the workforce. Proposals in Congress would shift expansion costs to the state, likely giving Iowa lawmakers the opening to drop coverage for this group altogether.

191,000 people in Iowa's 4th District depend on Medicaid and SNAP to get the health care they need and put food on the table. Call Rep. Feenstra at (202) 225-4426 and tell him to prioritize Iowans' well-being over tax cuts for the rich.

That's it. That's the message.

The numbers really do tell the story. Folks in the #IAlegis are rushing through bills that would cut people off Medicaid if they can't meet rigid requirements to report work hours, caregiving responsibilities and their health status. Iowa groups overwhelmingly oppose these plans.

We've been all over #IA this week with our friends from organized labor and @progressiowa.bsky.social talking about the stakes of the DC budget debate. Republican proposals would continue big tax cuts skewed to the wealthy and gut Medicaid and SNAP to pay for them. Let's keep up pushing back.

The amount of cuts the House Budget Resolution would force on Medicaid and SNAP equals the cost of tax cuts for people with incomes in the top 1% of incomes. That's a bad set of priorities.
