today i walked out and sat down with the chickens and Tarnished just jumped up on my knee, on his own. i pulled out some reward leaves for him, and he jumped off mid monch to peck at Chozo for trying to mount Eaglen, then jumped back up. he even stuck around after. let's hear it for the boy

i found a design for a paper mahjong compass, made some edits to it (scaling it up, stretching the riichi pockets, adding wall digits)... printed it out, stuck it to some cardboard, and cut out the riichi pockets + stripped the top two layers of the cardboard to sink it in. game night gonna pop off

do you ever just think about "offensive crouch," the counterpart to holding down-back to crouch block which was featured prominently in sf2 arcade control labels despite it having no functional difference from regular crouch for literally any sf2 character
the controls of an old Street Fighter 2 arcade cabinet, with a ring around the stick suggesting what each direction does. you hold back to block, so left is labeled "back / defense" and down-back is labeled "defensive crouch," while down is just labeled "crouch." bizarrely, down-forward is labeled "offensive crouch," despite it having no functional difference from normal crouch for any sf2 character.

Chapter 5, Lesson 5 (Level 1) Don't dwell on bad luck There are times in mahjong when you can't help but think, "Why am I so unlucky?" Maybe you've had several hands in a row with nothing but dead draws. Mavbe vou've lost three consecutive head-on riichi clashes. Maybe it's been a long stretch with no top finishes at all. You'll often hear players voice these frustrations aloud Is there any actual benefit to focusing on these kinds of things? The human brain can only hold about four pieces of short-term information at once. Meanwhile, a single hand of mahjong throws an overwhelming amount of data at you: your own tile acceptance, other players* tile choices, discarded patterns, point spread, call reads, and more. Just tracking those is enough to max out your mental bandwidth. What happens when you start cluttering that space with noise like "How many turns of dead draws have I had?" That's right. You lose the capacity to process the information that actually matters. That, in turn, causes you to play worse and that spiral is one of the real causes of a cold streak. The most important skill here is to not dwell on misfortune. It's easy to feel like you're the only one getting unlucky, but it's a trick of the game's structure. Mahjong is designed in a way where you can't really see other people's bad luck. Maybe you win a 1,000-point hand, but maybe someone else was sitting on a four-dora monster that never came together. (Page 170) Maybe the opponent across from you (toimen) who folded might have been stuck in a perfect one tile awav from tenpai (kanzen iishanten) with ten straight useless draws. Maybe you have a middle wait and it turns out that all the tiles were part of someone else's hand. Bad luck happens to everyone in equal measure. The best way to deal with bad luck is by reminding yourself: "I'm not the only one who's unlucky" then mentally delete the experience. This frees up your attention and memory to play mahjong better and helps you play with a fresher overall mindset. (Page 171)

A rhode island red hen steps through some mud after rain. Her comb is bright red and her back feathers are rainslick. An orange half-silkie hybrid chicken steps onto the tire and looks right at the camera. I have no idea what their sex is. Most of their feathers are wet, but their head is holding it together. An brown and black silkie hen stands in the mud next to some chairs. She's wet for sure, but she's a bit too composed, too elegant for this category. A wet beast, but not a sad one. A grey silkie hen stands pathetically by a wooden step. Every aspect of her feathers is soaked. Even the feathers on the tip top of her head are folded over pathetically, looking more like anime character hair than anything recognizably bird. how did she even get this sopping, this wet?

children rest in red
a red glow lightly illuminates several resting silkies on their platforms and in their boxes a view of Chozo, a young black and red silkie rooster, as he walks around having been roused by my presence. Pirate and Cream, two young silkie chickens, resting in the rafters, barely within the glowing area. A rhode island red chicken peeks her head out. I think it's Rider, but I'm not sure.

still the most beautiful shot i've ever taken. i do a lot of gazing up at the night sky, and never in my life, even in others' photos, have i seen a triple moonbow before or since, let alone one so vibrant. it's just as entrancing now as it was when i saw it in the sky that night.
In the middle of the night, an unusually bright, high-contrast full moon shines through a thin layer of clouds, illuminating them and making it look like daylight in the area just around it. Encircling the moon is a perfect moonbow, a rainbow made by refracted moonlight and cast as a circle around the moon, with two lesser moonbows surrounding it. There is a small hole in the clouds just up and right from the moon where the outer parts of the moonbows are cut.
