Back in 1989, Nintendo had a number that you could call to get prerecorded tips on NES games and new release info hosted by "Captain Nintendo." I've yet to see anyone else dig into this, but I kept several of the recordings for those interested: archive.org/embed/Captai...

If you see this, quote with a robot that isn’t from Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr. Who, or Transformers.

1/4 The Capcom Yashichi Origin

Japan's longest running TV drama was Mito Kōmon / 水戸黄門 (1969-2011). It was like an Edo period version of The A-Team where the travelling good guys would help the locals from corrupt officials and criminals. One of the main characters was Kazaguruma no Yashichi / 風車の弥七

I was a bit surprised that there was no trophy for completing the remembrances, but given the matchmaking, thank goodness.

Wrote about Cat Hui Trading's throwback horizontal STG, Changeable Guardian Estique, a modern game developed for the NES with (1) an unbelievable roster of developers who have worked for Compile, Namco, Arika, M2, and more, and (2) is just a great shooter in general, to boot.
Past meets present: Changeable Guardian Estique
Compile might be no more, but there's nothing stopping former devs of the shoot 'em up legend from working together on something new in the present.

I love playing these older games before spell check was a thing. Big dargon energy here.

Time for more adventures in Ivalice.

I finished up a run of the original Final Fantasy Tactics for the first time since the 90s. This game is still fantastic, and I can’t understand why on earth this hasn’t gotten any modern rerelease.

I like how #DarkSouls2 directly addressed going through a fog door backwards in the button prompt text.

I’m to that point in #DarkSoulsII for PS3 that it’s time to grind for covenant items since servers are down. They really ought to patch this stuff before they do that.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah out their gaming folks. If your birthday is today, my condolences.

Pretzels are just cylindrical crackers. Change my mind.

Ok, I haven’t seen this one before. #DarkSouls2 on PS3 coming back from the entrance to the Gutter to the bottom of the well. Couldn’t replicate.

Vanilla #DarkSouls2 is really a tougher beast. Really skimpy on upgrade materials and NPC summons, which makes the earlier part of the game trickier. The PS3 frame rate may be the bigger enemy.

Playing on PS3 again really makes me wish there was a PS3 Pro. Just a little improvement to loading and frame rate would be really appreciated. I suppose I should look into jailbreaking at some point, but probably not until PSN access goes away.

Just want to take a moment to praise the wonderful ideas of cooperatives. No huge payouts to executives, and our telecom coop even sends me a credit at the end of each year as a member.

Using a Dual Shock 4 on PS3 and the PS button worked for a bit, and then didn’t? Have to keep a Dual Shock 3 plugged in just for that button.

Installing vanilla #DarkSouls2 on a PS3. It’s been long enough I have forgotten some of the experience of using a PS3.
December 16, 2024 at 11:44 PM
Well, that took quite a bit of work, but wrapped up #DarkSouls2 on the PlayStation. I give this game huge props for trying so many interesting ideas.

Two completely unrelated stories. Yep, no conclusions to be drawn here.
