The guy shot two random people with a gun, I don't think you can say he wasn't assimilating into our culture
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

People would rather cross a picket line to pay $5 for a cup of coffee that took 5 min to make than pay an author $5 for a book that took a year or more to write.
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

If you've read my open access article on Twilight 2000, it would be super helpful if you could follow this link and offer some feedback. This feeds into what is known as an Impact Case Study, where I measure/analyse public engagement w/ my research. Thanks in advance!

Given what we’ve seen on America’s streets, it’s worth repeating what the court says here:

Needlessly pointing a firearm at someone can violate the Fourth Amendment, even if the officer never pulls the trigger.
Fourth Circuit publishes an opinion to make a point that otherwise would go unseen.

The response to this article today from professional colleagues and the gaming community has really been heartwarming and humbling. I really do appreciate people engaging with this research, and taking the time to let me know (esp. if - like me - they played Twilight 2000 'back in the day').

Saw this at BeyondFest and it was fantastic, and so darkly funny and on point for where we are today. Can’t wait to see it again

If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

Two years ago I interviewed a 31-year-old NY state assemblymember about a 7-year-old girl killed by an SUV driver in his district. I hung up the phone, astonished that I'd talked to a legislator who so thoughtfully articulated what actually needs to change on our streets.

He'll make a great mayor

My deepest condolences to the Democratic Party strategists whose 2028 plans are in disarray now that they lost 50% of that crucial Cheney endorsement they were counting on

You should watch this with the sound on to hear how matter-of-fact dystopian the Illinois State Police "warning" is.

Again, not ICE. Pritzker's state police. Who we're told are not assisting ICE.
Another warning.

Day 31 of 31 Days of Horror, “Halloween Night” Haunt, took a little bit to get going but once it did it was a whole bunch of fun. Personally I love a “final girl goes on a rampage” movie. Also, end credits was a indie rock cover of Rob Zombie’s Dragula by Lissie that was surprisingly great.

Day 30 of 31 Days of Horror “Kid Friendly” Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Look, my dad showed me this movie when I was like 10 so it counts. It’s prob not appropriate for kids, but I loved it then and love it still.

Day 29 of 31 Days of Horror “William Castle” House on Haunted Hill, love this movie so much. The way Vincent Price mugs for the camera so playfully and Elisha Cook Jr’s perfect fearful warnings to the audience really make the movie for me. Plus who doesn’t love a skeleton?

if you see someone wearing an ICE costume, treat them like you would treat someone dressed as a nazi.

Day 28 of 31 Days of Horror, “Haunted House I haven’t seen” Umma. Pretty hard to find one on streaming that both looked good and i hadn’t seen as it’s my favorite genre of horror. Settled on this one which had a few decent scares and solid story but the ghost was a little too supernatural for me

Day 27 31 Days of Horror “Creepy Neighbors” 1BR. Solid cult movie, a little slow in the middle but the end was a nice payoff.
