It’s been clear for a while now that the entire American power structure under Trump is held together with increasingly complex and convoluted blackmail schemes. It all feels like a Jenga tower swaying back and forth. Probably won’t be good when it finally falls.
If you’re feeling uneasy, it’s probably because we now know we live in a country built on the blackmail of a dead pedophile who is Too Big to Fail, so Congress has to go home for a couple of months to figure out how talk about it without defenestrating the president and collapsing the economy.

You know the worst part about everything that's happening politically? It'll take years if not decades to fix. Much easier to appeal to hate and taking a wrecking ball to stuff than to do the opposite.

“Independence day is canceled because of fear of secret police raids” is really a level of on the nose political symbolism you just can’t make up.
LA Times - Several communities in Los Angeles County have called off or postponed their previously scheduled Independence Day and July events, citing resident safety amid ongoing immigration enforcement raids.
Fear of immigration raids force the cancellation of several July festivities in Los Angeles

Well-meaning folks on Bluesky who dismiss sportsball as some kind of distraction to What Matters Now are missing a key point in creating an alternative to X: Sports for better or worse dominates American culture. You ignore enormous swaths of potential allies when you dismiss sports.
Since the NBA season ended last night, here's my self indulgent take on where Sports Bluesky is atm. The TLDR is that crappy Resistance accounts are working like antibodies to flush casual sports ppl off this platform and the devs should address this if they actually want sports to take off here.

There are *so many* people - guys, even - who are vaguely horrified by what's happening today, and might be drawn into a larger, more productive conversation if they can first talk about The Game with like-minded folks.
Being politically aware and a sports fan are not mutually exclusive. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk

I could ignore sports and reality TV and all of the other dumb shit I like and focus solely on my nonstop existential dread, or I could try to stay as mentally and emotionally healthy as possible and enjoy some things occasionally while still mostly focusing on the unavoidable existential dread.

The Falcons have multiple exciting rookie pass rushers, something that hasn't happened in recent memory. But how often will they play them, and what will their roles be?

@falcfans.bsky.social looked ahead to the season to come for Jalon Walker and James Pearce

How intentional will the Falcons be about playing their rookie pass rushers?
Expectations are high that Jalon Walker and James Pearce will be featured a lot, but there could be obstacles blocking them from breakout seasons.

political press is doing a real disservice by basically not reporting the nuances of public opinion on deportations, and creating the appearance that most americans support the stephen miller-style gestapo tactics
Should we deport people who have lived here for many years without committing any crimes? 61% no, 24% yes.

Should we should deport people as quickly as possible even if it means more mistakes, or do our best to make no mistakes even if it takes longer?

Quickly: 19%
Minimize mistakes: 74%

It's an illegal use of active-duty troops to enforce domestic policy, it's been a key foundation of our system of laws for 150 years, indeed a blatant disregard for the law, & that's how every headline should describe it.

On one hand, you have a group of people separating families, deporting kids with cancer, and sending people to prison without due process. On the other, you have people waiving Mexican flags.

I can see why it’s hard to pick a side here. It’s really confusing.

He is absolutely the worst politician in Utah and that is saying a lot. I have joked that Mike Lee and Spencer are starting to look the same. They truly are the same person. I just need to know what contraption is keeping him upright in these photos. It’s certainly not a spine.
Spencer Cox says he supports Donald Trump's decision to send National Guard troops and Marines to California against that state's wishes — and issues a warning to Utahns planning to protest Saturday.
