Unfortunately no mention of Cohasset Punch in there, but he does talk about meeting Walter Williams, the brother of Lewis Williams who co-created the drink. Also he talks about taking Lewis Williams’ daughters Ella and Ruth to meet Teddy Roosevelt!

Though she died in 1898 right as Cohasset Punch was getting started, my educated guess is that she would NOT have been a fan. Let’s do it.

Traditionally, Cohasset Punch is stirred with ice and served in a cocktail glass over a peach slice — but it can also be used as a component with other spirits and mixers in multi-ingredient cocktails.

The Cohasset Corpse Reviver takes this recipe and substitutes Cohasset Punch for both the gin and orange liqueur, creating a flavorful, balanced drink. Happy reviving!

The most famous of these drinks is the “Corpse Reviver No. 2” created at London’s Savoy Hotel in the late-1920s, and included equal parts gin, orange liqueur, lemon juice, and Kina Lillet (a bitter French apéritif wine) with a dash of Absinthe.

After the fire, Williams became a clerk in a railroad office before founding a bar with Tom Newman—a native of Westchester County, NY who previously managed a hotel bar in St. Louis—in 1885. The two began bottling Cohasset Punch in 1899, inspired by a recent trip by Williams to Cohasset, MA.

A stone lighthouse was built in its place in 1860 and still stands today. When Chicago bartenders Lewis Williams and Tom Newman began bottling their “Cohasset Punch” in 1899 — inspired by a recent visit to Cohasset — they selected an image of Minot’s Ledge Light to adorn every bottle.

At the time, a nearby lighthouse warning against this navigational hazard was under construction, but had not yet been lit. This new lighthouse, built on iron pilings on Minot’s Ledge, was lit for the first time in January, 1850, but was destroyed in a storm just over one year later.
