Last time, I was honestly not sure if I’d seen the aurora in Bloomington with my naked eyes. This time, it’s much brighter. Left no doubt. 😍

Love how the leaves are a bit colder that the ground, so the snow on top of them hasn’t melted yet

I know the college basketball season has really started when @kenpom.com turns back on his cron job that creates the big text file of game scores. 😃

The top 5: Ohio State. Indiana, Texas A&M, BYU, Georgia. List of biggest surprises ("least likely results") on the second image. This is D1 only -- including D2 and D3 is easy but would take... hours?... on a machine from 1992.

On a 33 MHz 486DX, we update David Rothman's college football computer ratings this morning. Video at 2x speed, in real time it takes about one minute to process the 1175 D1 games played. (I always love watching the convergence of an iterative formula like this.) Screenshots in next post.

For those of you with a clear west-facing view, see if you can spot any shelf cloud as it moves in. I'll appeal to our friend spectrum width to find it the gust front, and draw arrows pointing it out. Should be close to the west side by 4:45.

A Bloomington radar update (4:10 pm) -- looks like another hour or so until the rain actually gets here. But if the strongest of these actually make it to town, expect heavy rain + lightning that will mean you should be indoors, not outdoors.

The enjoyment of this warm homecoming day is quickly headed downhill, Bloomington. Start preparing *now* for a wet, windy, thundery rest of the day. There's lightning in several of these storms, too -- please be wise.

Yesterday: university boasts about the "largest living alumni network in the nation."
Also yesterday: a boneheaded decision leads one of the university's most prominent alumni to complain on social media. In under a day, his post draws nearly twice as many views as the size of said alumni network.

They detached the original post, hahaha. Okay, fine. But here's the original text for context, with author removed.
