...and it won't boot! So I burn another and test another. This time I walk over to watch them test. I can HEAR that something is wrong with the loading. Disc doesn't boot of course. I pull out the disc and flip it over to find it all scratched up! The read head was out of wack and damaging the disc!

Yes, you can definitely use it! It's a strong instinct and definitely something that as engineers grow in their career they must learn to overcome!
