"Pat, why do you carry that ridiculous 600mm lens on long hikes?"

Buddy, I can see mountains reflected in the eyes of a trailside pika.

Despite this guy’s claims, „troll”, „shitpost” and „fap” are older than 4chan, at least. „Troll” (first attested in 1993) and „shitpost” (1994) from Usenet, „fap” from the webcomic Sexy Losers (1999). 4chan was created in 2003.

Ironic given how he talks about forgetting where words originate.

Welcome home, J-Pod.

75 days after their last confirmed sighting in inland waters, Js made a surprise appearance and went north up Haro Strait this afternoon. We did see both J62 and J63 🫶🏻

The American Dialect Society Word of the Year: RAWDOG

To rawdog: taking on life without the usual protection, preparation, or comfort. Whether it’s diving into a challenge unprepared or skipping the safety net, rawdogging is about embracing risk, stone-cold sobriety, and rolling with it. #LSA2025

The famous green owl app Duolingo is going even harder into AI made by stolen content. It's not curated by native speakers so you have no idea if what you're learning is correct. Their algorithm overall tries to hit the happy brain juices instead of helping you learn. So here are some alternatives!

Every single word is translatable because any human can understand any human experience
It’s the time of year for mentioning one of my favourite ‘untranslatables’.

‘Poronkusema’, in Finnish, once denoted a distance of around 7.5km, which is roughly how long a reindeer can last before needing to urinate. ‘Poronkusema’ means ‘reindeer pee’.
