I'd expect something like this from this horrible country (USA), not Sweden. Wow.

A classic case of clueless do-gooders getting hoodwinked by extremists and criminals into doing their work for them. Its an object lesson in how to abuse moral panics into creating incredibly perverse outcomes.

Expect more and worse from this lot.

Oh dear, someone is going to get bad ideas from this.

It feels like a pilot test run for the US to copy.

Going after sex workers again. For shame Sweden, deal with your gross capitalists that invent reasons to go after you.

Ah yes, let's take the ability for people to profit from their own work directly, and make sure that only porn studios owned and run by straight men can profit. Because that system had historically done such a great job protecting it's workers.

Well, them and a bunch of self-described radfems who think those women are exploiting... themselves.

Do not look for logic in the Nordic model laws. They are not meant to protect workers, they're meant to make it more dangerous and hopefully dissuade (mostly) women from working in it.

Why else would you criminalize the purchase of a video that carries no penalty if you watch on a pirate site?

Everywhere these bills are passed, it's been done over the objection of sex workers and sex worker advocacy groups, who recognize it for what it really is — aggressive criminalization of income from sex work.

Doesn't matter if it's FOSTA-SESTA, Nordic Model, Equality Model.

Antiporn groups — particularly NCOSE and the SWERFs — have been anxious to bring this export this criminalization model.

The "offline" Nordic Model (going by the "Equality Model" and falsely claiming it was "decriminalizing" sex work) went into effect in Maine last year.
Maine’s bad prostitution law could be coming soon to your state
Maine became the first U.S. state to partially decriminalize prostitution. It's unlikely to be the last. And sex-worker rights activists are concerned.

This was first put forward to "protect" in-person sex workers by criminalizing their clients. Which not only cut their income but pushed the entire process underground, limited their ability to screen violent offenders and criminalizing anyone who supported workers.

The law was passed with wide support across the Swedish legislature, pushed forward by the panic that women are being exploited via OnlyFans.

But rather than give sex workers actual legal rights, antiporn activists forcibly removed ability to pay rent. Which, uh, never leads to exploitation.

It's an absolutely bizarre bill only criminalizes porn if you purchase it from a creator themselves. Studio content and pre-recorded content are exempted.

As with all "Nordic model" legislation, it actually takes away independence and agency and requires sex workers to work through third-parties.

As someone with long covid who still masks and gets boosters every 6 months, here’s why you need to get boosters:

Anyone can die from Covid, and anyone can get long covid. That has not changed anywhere in this process. Covid is less deadly because of the vaccines, but it is still deadly.
