Site Rep #11 – Ollomont (AO), 24/05/2025
The team is pushing forward with ice coring. They've reached a depth of 30 meters – but the return of water in the new borehole slows progress. The wind picks up with force, threatening tents, while snow keeps piling up and weighing them down.
May 25, 2025 at 2:39 PM
Today we reached the close off depth at around 28 metres, the point where snow and firn transitions to ice. We're now drilling ice that's saturated in water, causing the borehole to freeze up, complicating drilling conditions.

Ice Memory ice coring campaign on the Corbassière glacier on Grand Combin. At seven metres below the surface, the drilling team smelt that something was burning. Worried that the motor was overheating they pulled up the sample carefully and found there was plastic in the ice.
