As I continue to sort and sift through the @penamerica.bsky.social data on school book bans, I’m taken aback on how many titles are ones that I found value in as an adolescent.

I’m almost 56, so it’s been a while, but here are some of those books that’ve been restricted/banned recently.

My best advice for becoming a digital accessibility specialist is to make it your job, regardless of your title.

Making a presentation? Putting together a design? Building something in code?

In anything you do, be curious about what it takes to make it more accessible

and what ICE is doing is not "immigration enforcement"
DOGE was not a "cost-cutting measure," the assault on universities was not a "fight against anti-semitism," and the extra-judicial murder spree sure as shit is not an "anti-drug campaign."

You do not have to just take their word for everything.

Exciting day in our house: a new apple! The Red Kissable. Slightly mellow tart, pleasant crisp, stunning ombré. Still can't compete with my all-time love, the Golden Delicious (I am sorry for what I am).

Frog ate one of the cookies, “These are the best cookies I have ever eaten!” said Frog.

If you're looking for something read, so, so many great options in the replies and quote-posts --->
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

On this Veterans Day, more than any before, let us remember the valiant service of Black, Hispanic, Navajo, Japanese and other non-white Americans who fought bravely for the ideals of a country that failed to live up to them, and whose legacy a racist GOP is desperately trying to erase.

rebates are bad because they require people to pay upfront and maybe receive the money in the mail later and 50-year mortgages are bad because people will pay more interest compared to a 25-year or 30-year mortgage
QUINTANILLA: What's more likely -- a $2,000 tariff rebate check or a 50 year mortgage?

HASSETT: They're both really good ideas

It's a dark time for artists. Many are struggling!

It's easy to buy gifts online. When you buy from *artists*, you're supporting working people, instead of making rich jerks richer.

This fall, send your present $$ to an artist's shop!

If you are writing an opinion piece about higher education and the three example institutions you use are Harvard, Yale, and Stanford, please just throw your writing in the trash. You are not writing about higher ed, you are writing about a tiny elitist unrepresentative sliver of higher ed.

Today on Armistice Day, it’s worth remembering that the peace deal was so broken that nearly 3000 men died in the hours before the agreement took place, because no truce was included in the deal. I want to tell you about what might be the dumbest of those deaths.

-Don’t monetize your hobbies. Just don’t.
-The Thing in the Walls said to ignore any tapping in the walls. That’s the opposite of reassuring.

Back in the early days of the Modern Internet (mid to late 90's, early 00's), I was a part of the font-making world. I didn't design any fonts directly but I did chat with lots of font designers, and one of my ideas was used to make this, which you can still get.

if your company sells a toxic product, the poison may be what kills people, but it's still your company's fault
we should not be letting any company get away with blaming AI for their failures. I'm not even sure how we got to this point. people are like "it's just a tool" okay so is a forklift and we still hold somebody responsible when it goes wrong and hurts someone. this is YOUR AI!
