I didn't have a full-time job or kids, and I didn't delay my education, just this education. But surely once people found out I was 25, they'd assume things about me. My style in college was "aggressively comfortable," so I was actually concerned less with looking like an English major and more with showing that I was a college student. English majors invest in their craft. Footnote: I started college in 2008, three years before Borders went under in the U.S.

played 1812 Overture today and just want to share this note from my music director from before we started rehearsing this program. cannon-related misinformation in the orchestra fandom
It has come to our attention that there is a rumor circulating suggesting that we will be using cannons, or simulated cannon fire, during our upcoming performance of the 1812 Overture at the public school. To be absolutely clear, this is not the case. At no point was the use of cannons or any type of cannon sound effect discussed, proposed, or approved by anyone associated with our organization. Please help us dispel this misinformation by confirming, if asked, that no cannon of firearm effects, real or artificial, will be used in the performance. We remain committed to a safe, appropriate, and musically rich experience for both performers and our school audiences.

when I was 13, I wrote a letter to the editor in my local paper about how sad (or "bummed") I was about the WUSA folding, and today I remembered it existed for the first time in years ⚽
The Womens United Soccer Association has been a terrific organization for girls around the country to come watch their favorite teams. But on Sept. 16, 2003, the league folded after three years of business. This was due to lack of money in the league. I think there should be a way that we can bring this legacy back to the girls all over the country. Most girls who play soccer have a role model who played in the WUSA, and the game of soccer is breathtaking to the last second. The players love to play soccer and would be bummed if the league did not come back. One reason that we should help bring the WUSA back is that girls everywhere love to watch their favorite players play. Now that the WUSA is gone, the only way girls can see their favorite players is during the World Cup. But tickets can cost a fortune and there's no guarantee that you can get up-close and personal with them like you can with the WUSA. Another reason we need WUSA is simply because of the enjoyment of the games. They are suspenseful until the end, and the skill shown is incredible. Young aspiring soccer players can learn from them and become better players. There are special events at the games and sometimes you could even sign up your team to be the ball girls or rally tunnel! You could say that girls would not benefit from just watching people play soccer and that any old soccer camp would do. That's not true, though. People become great players by doing and watching. A great soccer player would know that. The WUSA is a terrific program for girls around the country. When it folded, many people were saddened, including the players. It gives girls a chance to look up to someone, the games are exciting to watch and it lets the players get a workout before international games. I think more people should get involved in bringing this terrific organization back to the fans, the girls and the players. Let's play soccer!
