I tried eating the purslane growing in my backyard. It has a sour almost lemony taste. Best with raw leaves cut up small and sprinkled on salad, chicken, or fish. Not grown for sale because it dries up super fast. Have to pick, wash, cut up, and serve immediately.

My experience may not be 100% relatable: I carried the emotional burden of dealing alone with older estranged relatives, trying not to share the burden with the younger generation. Eventually learned, in "normal" families, I would not have to construct that protective barrier and carry that burden.

Speaking from my own experience, I'm guessing it was your burden for years when family members were young and needed protection. The urge to protect is difficult as hell to put aside.

It should be the decision of the grandchild's parents. You are off the hook for this.
