Major Hurricane Melissa has reached 892 mb, which is the third lowest mean sea level pressure in Atlantic basin history matching the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935, which impacted the Florida Keys. With maximum subtained winds of 185 mph, the island of Jamaica likely will see generational damage.

A staggering 40% of the country’s weather forecast offices have significant staffing vacancies.

Some offices can no longer operate overnight – imperiling their ability to warn people of imminent extreme weather.

Make no mistake: DOGE's cuts put American lives at risk.
May 20, 2025 at 9:30 PM
The pure stupidity of cutting these centers will likely carry devastating and potentially deadly consequences. These centers help in repair and maintenance of river and tide gauges which are essential to river and coastal flooding forecasting.

The loss of climate data isn’t just shortsighted but also dangerous.
Well this would be a big problem for someone like me. I have come to rely on the MRCC's cliMATE tool for historical weather queries on the regular. Losing this would be devastating.

The fatigue due to covering shifts will cause mistakes that lead to preventable deaths and property damage. Please reach out to your congressional representatives.

Cuts of an additional 1,000 employees is short sighted and wreckless. It will further degrade forecast and warning services that the public depends on each and every day.

-Forecast data? NWS
-Observations? NWS
-Satellite? NOAA/NESDIS
-Futurecast modeling data? You guessed it, NWS (via EMC).
-Climatology data? The weather data compiled over a long period by techs.
-Outlooks? NWS
