There is quite a bit of low hanging fruit associated with simply getting BMU's to submit correct data to NESO (which they can be surprisingly bad at) and to properly engage in the BM itself.

NESO have made a big push to get these assets to offer reasonable prices in the BM to be kept on to manage big cliff edge drops. This has started to work. One of the issues was a lot of wind would just submit default turn up offers of 9999 all year regardless of situation...

Yes, for much of recent history pre 2020 when gas prices were relatively low and stable, nuclear for example would be selling on rolling 1-2 year forward contracts that just about undercut the prevailing market rate but no more...
