I dressed as Kenosha Kid for a halloween party, the character not the band, and I've never felt more alone.

They 'hallucinate' 100% of the time. Sometimes those hallucinations happen to be correct.

Why are we so bad at vetting people before they launch a campaign? Like, "does have nazi tattoos?" "did some racism on reddit?" seem like easy things to check.

I'm optimistic that at least a few of those companies will change how they do things after this. We usually get one or two big ones moving in the right direction post-catastrophe.

Prove me wrong, internet! I'd love to hear from anyone from one of the companies impacted by today's AWS outage who works in the Reliability space.
October 20, 2025 at 6:08 PM
I know ~twenty companies that do regional/datacenter failover fairly well. There is a cost to downtime. I'd be surprised if the companies on this list www.fastcompany.com/91425038/aws... didn't just lose more money than they would have spent on a failover strategy.
AWS outage hits much of the internet, impacting a long list of websites and apps, from Reddit to McDonald's
Reddit, Pinterest, the McDonald's app, Snapchat, and Zoom are among the services that rely on AWS, which suffered a major outage today.

As our dependence on digital infrastructure deepens, more lives are increasing impacted by the reliability of that infrastructure. We all depend on it, and inevitably, that infrastructure will fail. How quickly and effectively we can recover when that occurs is the key to moving forward.

Every business that was impacted by this outage today should be responding in the same way. If your business went down because US-East-1 went down, that's a choice.

Christmas of 2012, AWS suffered a similar outage to the same region US-East-1. Netflix’s entire streaming service came down. It’s why we built Chaos Kong. We didn't just accept the disruption and move on. Instead, we changed everything about how we respond to incidents across Engineering.

It's tempting at times like this to monitor dashboards, build up defenses, and dive deep into your technical stack. You'll make better progress if you focus on the impact to your customers, dive deep into your organization's culture, and question how your org chart reinforces your style of response.

True resilience means correlates with adaptive capacity: designing for uncertainty, understanding how failures propagate, and building sociotechnical systems that can absorb shocks and recover gracefully.

Reading Gunn's post-season interview, it's clear to me the plot wasn't about Chris. Salvation was all about setting up a 'phase' for the DCU. Feels like a mistake Marvel keeps making, trying to build an interconnected universe, instead of focusing on individual journeys that cross paths.

I like that interpretation of it. It still _feels_ to me like it was all character development with no plot. All of the traveling/motion they did just created more loose ends than it resolved, with Keith and Checkmate and Salvation, etc.

At least we got an alternative Foxy Shazam music video? I kind of like the black and white one better.

Now I'm talking myself out of it. Maybe his character already made that journey, and he just didn't realize it yet. Adebayo wasn't a guide, but was the narrator recounting his journey? Was him shouting "stop" his growth moment, and he just can't make it any further?
October 10, 2025 at 2:26 PM
Totally agree with you that everyone is stupid when it comes to love. But that switch in focus derailed Chris' character from growing, specifically the struggle of listening to himself vs following orders; for example, no authority figure told him Harcourt was a threat that needed to be eliminated.

Yup. I took that as a brazen setup for a future season. Keith is a loaded gun. Tune in next year to see us pull the trigger.
