352. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater

One of my favorite games on the PS1, but also was formative to my music tastes as well. Growing up around mostly Christian music and oldies, THPS was my first exposure to Dead Kennedys, Goldfinger, Primus, Suicidal Tendencies - the origin of my love for punk.

353. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out

Still remains my favorite game of all time. Something about it connected with me as a kid on a deep level. Maybe it was the rhythm gameplay disguised as boxing. Or the huge personalities and characters that wowed me. But I couldn't put it down and still can't.

354. Diablo 2

I can't recall if there was a game I was more hyped for in my lifetime. It was also one of the last times I remember my dad and I both being completely obsessed with the same game. We would talk about the uniques we found and do countless Travincal runs together.

355. StarCraft

During the summer of '98, my BFF and I shared any crumb of news regarding SC that we could find. We speculated over every screenshot we found, since we played WarCraft 2 so often. It dominated our lives for years (w/ the help of Brood War) - we would watch pro SC often

356. Diablo

One of the first PC games I bought when my family got our first computer. I remember the excitement of downloading the shareware (it took HOURS over 33.6k dial-up!) based on an EGM preview I read. The Butcher still gives me nightmares. Long live Godly Plate of the Whale.

357. WarCraft 2: Tides of Darkness

Nearly every day after school, I would go to my friend's house (their family owned multiple PCs) and we would play WarCraft 2 over LAN, usually against bots. This was a long-running ritual (until SC came out) and the map editor was an addiction.

358. Smash TV

The over-the-top satirical humor crossed with The Running Man was the perfect storm for adolescent me. I felt like I was in on a joke that that was much more "mature" than I was, especially the ridiculous gore. And I still quote, "Big money! Big prizes! I love it!"

359. Dragon Strike

I wasn't exposed to D&D as a kid but my BFF introduced me to Dragon Strike, which I had no idea was board game-adjacent (published by TSR but left all mention of D&D off the box, assuming from satanic panic.) It opened my eyes to tabletop RPGs and begged for it for Xmas

360. The Legend of Zelda

What needs to be said? It's a masterpiece that I still revisit. And some of my earliest gaming memories were drawing maps for my dad while I watched him play, and then using my maps during my own play through at 4 or 5 years old. It was a magical time.

361. The Realm Online

One of the early MMOs and I was hopelessly addicted. I thought it was the coolest thing ever, being able to see other players, chat with them, and even join a party together to fight monsters. The old-school Sierra adventure game style also was a huge draw for me.

362. Formula D

I have such a fondness for this racing board game, despite some of its crazy swinginess. It also suffers from a weird "best with more, but then takes way too long" problem. But it's still part of my favorite board gaming memories, especially our local F1 League.

363. Willow (NES)

I was obsessed as a kid. We never bought it, but my dad and I rented it repeatedly over an entire summer until we both finished it. There's nothing about it that's remarkable as a RPG, but it just hit at the right age I guess. I didn't even care about the movie!

364. Last Night on Earth

LNOE isn't a game that stands the test of time but it was one of the 1st hobbyist board games I purchased from @jeffcannata.bsky.social's rec on the Weekend Confirmed podcast back in 2010ish. It blew my mind and opened my eyes to a hobby I've been engrossed with ever since

365. The Simpsons (Arcade)

Beat 'em ups were one of my favorite genres as a kid, and none caught my attention as much as The Simpsons arcade cabinet did. I jumped on any opportunity I had to drop quarters into it wherever I could find it. Everything from the music to the graphics was candy to me.

I finally finished my top 10 video game list of 2024. I am working on my board game list next, but man. What a good year for games in general (and I'm glad, because I NEEDED THE DISTRACTIONS)

This is why NYT's Connections is an amazingly frustrating game. I love the concept, but too often clues like this exist purely to waste one of your four guesses when it's clearly a connection. That doesn't feel great when you are so limited on chances. It comes across as very player-antagonistic.

Also I haven't felt compelled to stay up til 1:30am to clear a fight in a looooong time, but this one really got its hooks in me to wanna farm it. I couldn't even be bothered to farm EX2, despite enjoying it!
