I really, really dislike the way Councils operate. Seems to attract such small-minded power hungry people. They are so often out-of-touch and need a total overhaul. IMO.

That's a very strange take. Activist could be from either 'side', screaming obscenities at each other does not help or change hearts and minds. But, sure. You do you.

My view is, extremes at any end of the political spectrum are unhelpful. For me, genuine, respectful discourse is essential to changing opinions and bring people along with change. But, if you see that as complicit, then that's your opinion. It's not mine.

Firstly, this isn't about sides. It's about human beings & as such should be treated with dignity and respect. Secondly, it's been turned into a political position which -IMO- it should never be, because, again, it's about people. Govts, lobbyists, and activists are both responsible for that.

Sure, look, you have your view, much of which I agree with - I do have those privileges (although I've had those 'not brown immigrant' experiences you mentioned too.) I'm not European though and getting legal residency is time consuming and painful. As a German, you just get to rock-up in Europe.

No, not at all. But this is the issue. Govt in Ireland are reactive, they do nothing until something explodes. So I understand why people feel like they do.

I have a slightly different take(as an immigrant in Ireland right now). The conversation is dishonest, both ways. Govt not acting quickly enough, activists on both sides trying to point score. It's no wonder people feel disenfranchised- which was his point - IMO.
