The Trump Admin. has been waging a punishing assault on the US clean energy transition. This week on SHIFT KEY, we talk to Senator Brian @Schatz.bsky.social about how clean energy companies, climate advocates and Democrats can fight back, whether we're in a Constitutional crisis, and more. 🔌💡 🔌🚗

Where should I start if I want to learn more about AI and specifically DeepSeek? The impact on electricity demand interests me the most. Is this model as big of a deal as people on Twitter are making it out to be?

What happened to the "all of the above energy strategy" the GOP usually talks about? Wind and solar are the vast majority of new additions. Is he trying to hurt the economy? Maybe he just doesn't care because there is no 3rd term to run for.
Energy abundance not so much. 🔌💡https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/temporary-withdrawal-of-all-areas-on-the-outer-continental-shelf-from-offshore-wind-leasing-and-review-of-the-federal-governments-leasing-and-permitting-practices-for-wind-projects

Trump going after offshore wind was predictable but adding onshore wind is insane, even for him. That is a massive industry that mainly operates in Republican-governed states. Surely some of their elected officials will push back on this, right?

The Inflation Reduction Act has been an economic engine across America. In just 2.5 years it has:

-Created >400,000 jobs
-Attracted >$422 billion in investments

Clean energy is a bipartisan success story, building a stronger nation.

Younger me would have thought someone like Musk would present a compelling argument for renewables to Republicans but he is too busy trying to oust European leaders from power to care about his original interest: clean energy. I don't know who has the political capital to fight back in this moment.
scoop: will oklahoma be the first state to ban renewable energy? its becoming increasingly likely.

as investments from the inflation reduction act flow into red states, we're seeing backlash. republicans are disliking renewables *more* than before.

No transition without transmission. I am ashamed we didn't get transmission permitting reform done when we had more federal influence.
Sounds here like a permitting reform deal was never really that close at the end of last Congress — key House Republicans and a few big electric utilities weren’t on board with the provisions to make it easier to build transmission: subscriber.politicopro.com/article/eene...

I feel like I am living through some bad movie. MAGA will find the most dated, regressive policy ideas and get away with repackaging them as a way to uplift the whole country. Yet the decades they point to were only greater for basically the top 0.01%.
As @davidheath.bsky.social points out — the doc Trump/Andreessen took this chart from to praise tariffs is a White House report on how tariffs “increase inflation, benefit the wealthy, harm low and middle income Americans” 👇🏽🤔💰 🇺🇸
