book 28: You're Not Supposed to Die Tonight by Kalynn Bayron

A YA slasher that plays w/the tropes of the genre. more humor than straight horror. Good for those wanting to dip their toes in the genre. Hewot Tedla did an excellent job with the audiobook. Quick, entertaining summer read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 💙📚

The Hormone of Darkness: A Playlist by Tilsa Otta

“I’m making friends with a black hole and I see him every afternoon
but deep down I don’t love him
and I don’t know where he’s going to take me”

this collection is tender and transgressive. out of foucus and sharp. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📚💙

book 26 I loved this odd, yet scarily familiar world. The writing switches from very simplistic to beautifully poetic, almost lyrical. humor & weirdness float in a novel that explores the roles of love, self preservation and responsibility as the world hurtles toward apocalypse ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📚💙

book 24 American Street by Ibi Zoboi

A beautiful multilayered story. Full of grit, emotion and authenticity. Character driven with a thread of magical realism throughout. A reminder to always remember who you are and to keep hope inside you. 📚💙

i struggled to get into this, maybe it just wasn’t the right time for me to read? no poem truly leapt from the page to burrow in my head or my heart

book 21 The Queen of the Ring: Sex, Muscles, Diamonds, and the Making of an American Legend by Jeff Leen

Interesting look at the history of a pioneer of women’s wrestling. The rise and fall of Mildred Burke. A balance of reverence and fact checking. A fascinating story but also a sad story.
