This is borderline every production I've seen. Dunno, "power-addled, revenge-obsessed plotter unexpectedly decides to forgive instead" seems more exciting to me.

The play only works if he doesn't decide until that very second. "Omnipotent puppet master's perfect plan works perfectly" is dramatically inert.

And there are great things in it! Loved the sensei stuff (which was apparently all Benicio's idea), loved a lot of the daughter's story line, loved the christmas adventurers stuff, but the perspective choice completely unbalances the movie.
