I have covered Women's basketball for Yahoo Sports, MSNBC,
Bleacher Report, and more. I cover the New York Liberty & host @lockedonwbb.bsky.social for @theixbasketball.bsky.social‬. Obsessed with pop culture and Lady Gaga too.
A lot is worth reading in @theixsports.bsky.social Daily today. But uhhh this STANDS out.

"...multiple sources tell @theixbasketball.bsky.social the overall salary cap increase on the table would not keep pace [for the middle class] with proposed jumps in rookie and max salaries."

Lindsey Harding has been a candidate for the LA Sparks, Washington Mystics and reportedly was initially one for the New York Liberty. This explains her hesitancy to return to the #WNBA right now.

Funny moment on the @glamour.com women of the year red carpet. Jonquel Jones, Nyara Sabally and Lexie Hull walked the carpet with Satou Sabally and Napheesa Collier not available to attend.

"Satou, I'm disappointed that you're not here," Nyara said with a smile when she was asked about her sister.

This entire @glamour.com cover series is very interesting, but here's some news regarding Nyara Sabally. More just a detailed explanation of what her off-season is going to look like.

Both Saballys will be in Miami w Nyara rehabbing while Satou plays in Unrivaled.

Something that stands out in Ben's reporting:

"Nneka Ogwumike, Kelsey Plum, Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier and WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert attended an in-person meeting...That session came just a week after Collier’s news conference in which she lambasted Engelbert’s leadership."

Really worth reading here from @howardmegdal.bsky.social:

"Leadership matters. And women in leadership are often held to a different standard when it comes to how they interact with others."

New reporting from me on Jonquel Jones' surgery. Source familiar says it's a minor surgery to correct ankle instability.

#NoKings was popping in Brooklyn.

‪Later I asked her about Dawn Staley’s recent comments about the NBA glass ceiling, why the ceiling exists and if the ceiling even should matter amid the growth across the #WNBA. ‬

With the news coming out this morning about Alex Sarama officially hired by Portland, I want to share part of a chat I had with Becky Hammon yesterday.

First I asked her about who she thinks within NBA circles is most fit to coach in the #WNBA which was “a loaded question.” (1/2)

I always appreciate when Buckets does his best Freddie Mercury impression. There’s a special wrinkle at the end when he shows the crowd a sign that says:

Freddie Mercury > Phoenix Mercury

Usher, an all time favorite artist of many of the Aces is in the house.

I appreciate the Michelob Ultra DJ who played Frank Sinatra's "Strangers In the Night" by Frank Sinatra to introduce the Mercury as they came onto the floor. Quite an apropos song choice.

I asked Cathy Engelbert pregame about how the #WNBA needs to be prepared to address its own injury epidemic.

Cc to @seehafer.bsky.social and his injury data base @theixbasketball.bsky.social. Here’s part of her answer.

Halftime lights here in Vegas. Game 1 has been high scoring as Phoenix has done an excellent job of moving the Vegas defense. Meanwhile the Aces’ bench and role players have stepped up and taken advantage of the Merc’s lesser defenders.

Breanna Stewart has officially put out her own statement in response to Napheesa Collier’s four minute prepared speech from yesterday.
