Long day. I was surprised by a question asked during the recent #DeepMapping Dialogues event: ‘How can we systematically analyse #DeepMaps via e.g. LOD or Network Analysis?’. Experience provided an instinctive answer: ‘You can’t - methods mismatch'. Demonstrating it has taken far more effort! 1/2

The last @landscaperesearch.bsky.social meet up was a rare event where group size & make up enabled a proper conversation started by @frankrennie.bsky.social around his remarkable book: Among the Layers of the Land. A thoughtful, deep time story of place in alternating factual & fictional chapters.

Engrossed in Morag Rose's new book: The Feminist Art of Walking. Current chapter's discussion of exercise, ableism & inaccessibility of nature for those w/ energy limiting conditions (4.7M UK) is echoed in lack of planned, regular, safe rest stops in many active travel schemes. @thelrm.bsky.social

Popping into the Scottish Archaeological Forum conference: 'Building Bridges: Connecting Scotland's Archaeological Community' this afternoon. An excellent, annual event conceived & delivered by postgraduate & early career archaeologists.

Looking forward to the next session on intangible heritage.

Completely enamoured with this collection of C17th Welsh & English county maps, particularly the inclusion of county town plans in the corner of each. Intrigued by a Welsh county/town I'm not familiar with: Radnorshire/Radnor - now New Randor - which remains remarkably intact today. #MapMonday

Very interesting consultation call with Creative Commons re: their CC Signals scheme being developed in response to content scraping & reuse in AI model training - a scenario not covered by current CC Licensing. Early days but keen to see where this leads ...

Oh!! I've broken my book buying ban (again - I'm not very good at it) and bought a copy. I grew up on Richard Scary books and have needed to know how things work ever since!

😍 Great idea to reinvigorate thinking around these objects.

Open to all: "We invite thinkers, mathematicians, creators, researchers, and enthusiasts from all walks of life to submit their interpretations, hypotheses, or creative responses to one of archaeology’s most intriguing enigmas."
