Newsom is an awful man without a single principled bone in his body but I am actually genuinely shocked by how terrible his political instincts are in this moment

the base is screaming for someone to stand up to this fascist kleptocracy and he thinks they want him to pal around with the fascists
I love how Gavin Newsom, a man I've long suspected to be an opportunistic sleaze, has finally revealed himself to the folks whose political bullshit detectors may not be as finely tuned. He's making it easy for everyone!

Just taught about the MS St. Louis and the reasons we have asylum laws only to have my institution labeled anti-Semitic by an administration trying to end asylum. (Remember we said “Never Again”?)

Sac State at #5. Will be interesting to see what this actually means.
The Ed. Department's Office for Civil Rights sent letters to 60 additional institutions "warning them of potential enforcement actions" for "violations relating to antisemitic harassment and discrimination" including Harvard, Brown, Stanford, Princeton, UNC, and several UC's

I’m not saying I’m depressed, but I am saying that my cat has a UTI and while I wait for her to get better I’ve given up trying to stop her from physically peeing on me

When I originally watched “Don’t Look Up” I found the dark humor deeply depressing. Lately I’ve been itching for a rewatch and thinking about the ending as uplifting and aspirational. Not sure what that says about my current mental health.

as we dismantle social science & humanities and promote career paths and STEM, will only privileged people get to be thinkers? I don’t have the words yet. Feels like we’re being tasked only with making workers not philosophers, leaders. Only the leisure class gets art and beauty and deep thoughts?

It is a good time to reflect on the challenges air traffic controllers face and the time Reagan fired 11,000 for striking for better conditions. As with Boeing’s plane issues, it seems like better labor relations and staffing could have prevented last night’s tragedy

Looking Back On When President Reagan Fired The Air Traffic Controllers
Thursday marks 40 years since former President Ronald Reagan fired more than 11,000 striking air traffic controllers. That dealt a serious blow to the American labor movement.

While Gavin Newsom cuts the budget to the largest public university system in the country, CFA faculty and lecturers are meeting to discuss how we can protect our students from ICE raids across the state. The dems won’t save us. We keep us safe.

58 Democrats helped Republicans pass the Laken Riley Act, which will enable Trump's ICE to put migrants *accused* of shoplifting in detention, without due process.

As in, with Trump's new call to detain 30,000 migrants in Guantanamo, these Democrats may help put them there:

Great idea from my dear friend, Leanne Purdum, PhD: have a colleague read your student evaluations and give you a digest of what’s important instead of spiraling into a dark pit after reading them two days before the new semester starts.

Reading that one disgruntled student’s teaching evaluation.“Terrible” because students discussed for up to 30 minutes a class, 4 guest speakers offered their expertise, and because, apparently, “when she speaks it is clear she is not as educated as she should be.” NOT AS EDUCATED!!! Amazing.
