"They all agree wives aren't invited."

Deliciously unglamorous portrait of life at a London advertising agency in 1970, centred around the annual Christmas party. Includes some spectacular hairdos and some rather outmoded attitudes to, well, everything.

This week's Friday pub is the Manx Bar, Glebe St, Townhead.

The tenement above the pub was dismantled in the 1960s in preparation for the Townhead interchange, however the single storey bar survived until 1991.

Kai Slater dons the velvet flares once again for this superlative dose of psychedelic 1960s pop, spun out on electric 12-string and recorded in a dazey cloud of lo-fi fuzz.

‘We never had much fun – we were angry’: Eve Libertine on life with anarcho-punk pioneers Crass
Accused of obscenity and sued by police and Tory MPs, Libertine outraged the establishment as part of Crass. Now she’s back – and she hasn’t mellowed with age

Minimal packaging. A tracklisting which makes perfect sense on the first side then appears to have been put together by throwing everything into the air for the other three sides. Somehow though... everything works. It's what I bought first, it's what I fell in love with.

29. Shelagh McDonald - Stargazer (1971)

I'd been after a copy of this for years. Thankfully, it has finally been reissued & it was worth the wait. A Scottish singer with a stunning voice, she was backed by the likes of Richard Thompson & Keith Christmas on this. Folk pop, very good.

I've just discovered that the ITV Christmas Morning broadcast from Harrogate Children's Hospital in 1979 featured an appearance from Animal Kwackers. They didn't bring them into a hospital did they? Christ. Imagine waking up and finding THAT right in front of you in your ward.
