Over at explore's bear chat, people are posting about #480 Otis, King of Katmai, in honor of no kings day. It's a nice iteration on a board where political discussions are not allowed. We may never see Otis again (he would be ~30 yrs old this year) but he's forever loved. From August 2022:

She's always so fun to watch. I love how she's a bit cranky like mom 284. Every time she charges/yells at some bear for no reason I smile a little. She was a great first-time mom, too. Hopefully she'll have more cubs in the future. PS found this gif I saved of her doing yoga

Oh I love that the weather raccoon sheds its winter coat upper body first. We have a lot of fun looking at different shed patterns of the brown bears on @explore.org's bear cam. #821 "Pepper" famously had his fuzzy pajama pants the entire summer in 2021, seen here via Katmai NPS photo

Oh I love that the weather raccoon sheds its winter coat upper body first. We have a lot of fun looking at different shed patterns of the brown bears on @explore.org's bear cam. #821 "Pepper" famously had his fuzzy pajama pants the entire summer in 2021, seen here via Katmai NPS photo
Yeah I think it was before my time, too. But I remember watching a video of him fishing on the lip with mom and younger brother 812 and it was very charming. Ps was trying to look for a snapshot of him on the lip and found this gif of little sister 101 sticking her tongue out at him ❤️

Oh yes the mom was #806 "Little Lip Fisher". We saw the fight on the bear cam that day and it was very scary! Thank goodness the cub was okay- not sure if you knew but he ended up winning Fat Bear Junior that year. 😉 Here's a gif of the incident since the camera was pretty glitchy
