Uses chemical fossils to reconstruct past climates. Currently Prof. at ETH Zurich in Switzerland, but I find that Belgian chocolate and beer is still the best. Main hobby: parent of two young people with o-pin-ions.
Beautiful spring day in Central Switzerland. ☀️

Immensely proud of my PhD student Fatemeh Ajallooeian who successfully defended her PhD yesterday! Keep an eye out for exciting work on the temperature dependency of lacustrine GDGTs within a single lake system!

On #worldsoilday I was visiting Vienna University to talk about GDGT lipids in soils #ter_vienna. We discussed their potential to reconstruct chemistry changes through time and I left with a bunch of great research insights. #grateful

Team work makes the dream work! Thanks to Nathalie Dubois for reviving Analyseries and doing the XRF alignment of the Rotsee sediments we collected last year. So good looking! #Ca/Ti

In 🇨🇭 we had the Zukunftstag today, where 11-13 year olds can visit a workplace (often their parents’) to get a taste of what kind of jobs are out there. Was so proud to take my son who did a great job with the GC-FID and all the ERDW workshops in the afternoon. Thanks @ethzurich.bsky.social!

There was also an exhibition part on the CERN collider, with this somewhat philosophical description of traces, and how they are used in different scientific fields. #museoscienza #traces

After leaving Rome with it’s beautiful museum for Etruscan history (vases!), I had the time to visit the Da Vinci museum for science in Milan. Really cool exhibition on recycling of materials.
