It's amazing how long it took to make social media that tunes out everything but my friends.
I don't know when I've felt older than just now, seeing "The Antiques Roadshow: The Gen X Years" on the TV.

Who exactly would rather have a stablecoin that a barely regulated company SAYS is worth a dollar instead of... a dollar, which IS worth a dollar?

I just don't see how you can be into this absent some mix of gullibility, cynicism, and corruption, which of course is exactly why this junk is legal.
What Are Stablecoins? (Gift Article)
You can use stablecoins, which are pegged to the dollar, to buy things online or send money abroad with minimal fees — and they are subject to very little legal oversight.

Thing that happens every time also happening this time, shocked historians report
BASH: We have seen these attacks from the president at other people. It's not new. And I haven't heard you speak out about it until it was directed at you.

MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE: I think that's fair criticism. And I would like to say, humbly, I'm sorry for taking part in the toxic politics.

I'm not the first to say it, but this (very good) article is the latest one pushing me toward politically prioritizing "algorithmic content recommendation as a public health concern." Ending 230 immunity for platforms with both user-posted content and algorithmic recs needs to be the first debate.

I'm not too proud to say I laughed.

Great thread. Reminder that 1) There is no easy button to avoid the long, hard slog of liberty, and 2) whatever idea you're talking about isn't eternally bulletproof just because a Founding Father wrote it down when only white male landowners could vote and our primary adversary was England.
Let's talk about Article V, a🧵. What’s that? It’s the bit in the Constitution that allows amendment. There are two ways the Constitution can be amended. One is the process you're familiar with: Congress passes an amendment and the states ratify it. Read it here: www.law.cornell.edu/constitution....

"Where federal officers act unlawfully, commit unauthorized acts, or act unreasonably in carrying out their duties, they are not shielded by federal immunity and can therefore be subject to state criminal prosecutions."

This article is a must-read.
Are federal officials immune from state prosecution?

@bgodar.bsky.social writes that, contrary to recent assertions, federal officers do not have blanket immunity from criminal prosecutions brought by states.

A senior LEO manager admitting to lying in court is, uh... a huge, huge deal. Am I reading this story right?
FULL STORY: Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino, who led a series of increasingly aggressive raids across Chicago and its suburbs, lied about firing tear gas at protesters in Little Village and tackling a man outside the Broadview ICE facility, a federal judge said Thursday. @wttw.bsky.social

Hot take: the Dems overperform polls tomorrow because pollsters haven't really grappled with inflation being THE issue in American politics since '22, even as their own polls say so. Conventional wisdom is that '24 was a "cultural" shift, but this makes no sense if most voters barely follow news.

Andrew Cuomo thinks New York City... completely sucks, apparently.

This has been the most important lesson, learned and relearned, of the last 15+ years.
However much you, a politically engaged person, think the average American knows about what's going on, I can promise you: it's way less than that. No matter how low your estimation. It's lower than that.

I have long been wondering what legal authority these guys have been leaning on not to identify themselves. The question is important because it leads to follow-on questions about (a) what other authorities are available to ICE in these operations and (b) accountability in civil and criminal courts.
Hard and fast rule of legitimate policing:

With the sole exception of the undercover infiltration of criminal activity, if as an officer you undertake duties that cause you to hide your identity from the public then what you are doing is corrupt and immoral. Also, you're an asshole.
At least in Watchmen they wore recognizable uniforms.

Donald Trump ran for office to 1) stay out of jail and 2) steal your money.
Breaking News: President Trump wants $230 million from the Justice Department for investigating him, people familiar with the matter say. Any settlement might ultimately be approved by senior department officials who defended him or those in his orbit. nyti.ms/4hmIi5X
