Female-only changing rooms, prisons and hospital wards are a perfectly reasonable demand from females.

pertinent point is that QR portrayed JKR as having trans as sole focus like Linehan. It’s incorrect - whether we like it or not she is writing and selling new material at a level that means she does not need to continue with her stance on trans for pride or attention. Nothing gained by denying that.

I’ve not read the books so not interested in critiquing them. She is still writing best-selling novels and getting tv series off the back of them. She is objectively being successfully productive. The QR question was WHY Linehan and JKR have abandoned all for anti-trans. He has, she certainly hasn’t

Not read her books- take your word they're transphobic. Point is she's not bound to anti-trans for relevance/purpose- she's still productive/successful. Also, rescuing afghan women= charity work that has 0 to do with transphobia. We can see why Linehan persists- he's lost it all. But JKR- less clear

*Not defending Rowling's views* but since coming out with them, she's written 5 best-selling Strike novels + tv shows, been 'fairly involved' with new HP series + her charity projects. It's wrong to say anti-trans is her sole identity and purpose, unlike Linehan for whom it is now his raison d'être.

No need to resort to 'stupid'. You disagree or you don't understand, just say so or don't respond.

What a great example of you *reading* something that is unwritten.

Don’t do the ‘stupid’ thing, no one is engaging in bad faith.

'especially' by sight or touch... *read* into 'especially' what you will... Either way, when you listen to a narration of a written text you are of course getting information from a written text.

He humiliated himself so wrote a piece blaming it on having taken some cocodamol for a sore back, and on everyone else of course (clueless farmers, dumb and/or devious female journalists, avocado-eating Londoners etc.) in order to assuage his narcissistic injury. Pathetic.

I think there is a difference between hearing/listening but I'm sitting here (not) writing an essay for my French master in psychoanalytic research - who knows what I'll think when I'm done with it next year. At this moment, interpretation = (un)conscious process of assigning meaning = 'reading'...

We could be here all day as to be honest you'll find I think most things we do constitutes reading. I accept others don't agree.

If you are interpreting lyrics then you are reading them, yes.
November 24, 2024 at 5:16 PM
Are you interpeting a text? If so, you are reading, whether you engage with the text via touch, sight or sound.

Interesting. I did my psychology studies in the UK and now doing an M2 in psychoanalysis in France to satisfy my philo/history interests. Finding it truly fascinating but agree can’t see the point of wedging it into a psych curriculum.

My friend experienced mania when on the gel. She has osteopenia/early menopause so really wanted to persist with treatment. Took some trial and error with different delivery systems (patches and pills) and doses but she's all good now. The gel is a no-go in her particular case.

Exactly, I was going to say 2 months starting from last week.

When you have people like Matthew Parris in The Times explicitly expressing their hope for a societal shift where vulnerable people choose death rather than becoming a "burden" on state/family, you have to pause for thought. Concepts of "dignity" and "common good" are complicated in this context.

Hitler, Mussolini and Trump would not take the photo of a peaceful transition of power. Biden did.

Agree, zero empathy, zero ability to consider needs of others etc. BUT I would say Trump displays classic narcissism rather than psychopathy -hypersensitive to what others think of/say about him, very quick to take umbrage hence always falling out with anyone who challenges his fragile ego defences.
