IRX3 buffers the SUMOylation to promote adipogenesis and block osteogenesis. IRX3 loss boosts SUMOylation, inhibits PPARγ, and pushes cells toward bone fate, which is reversible with SUMOylation inhibition.
IRX3 is an epigenetic gatekeeper.

The project involves integration of ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, CAGE and HiC experiments to reveal mechanisms that prevent epigenetic and transcriptional drifting during cellular reprogramming with a particular focus on the adipose tissue.
