MADNESS. DELICIOUS MADNESS.

My favorite is when they say they’re reviewing a game on its objective merits and flaws and then spend the entire time comparing it to their clear favorite.

Usually some flavor of D&D.

Which is fine! But they’re not being objective.

So this is the same as the three box sets I bought a while back?

I don’t need to worry about FOMO on this release?

Yeahhhhhh I often wonder how they expect that in-book art beat to translate into tabletop play.

You can only make so many handouts, after all.

EXACTLY.

Tell me what piece of work, specifically, that you are trying to evoke. Because if it’s Mononoke, I’m down. But I personally find Ponyo insufferable. One, I’ll play. The other is not for me.

It’s like people who think steampunk is a time period and not a design conceit.

Also:

Nausicäa is not a Ghibli film. It’s a Miyazaki film from Toei.

It’s an easy (EASY) mistake to make. One I’ve made before.

Now, if you tell me your RPG is inspired by Nausicäa, I am going to be very interested. Because that’s some hard stuff to pull off.

Tell your potential players exactly which of the Studio Ghibli works you’re working from.

“This game blends the action of Mononoke with the cyclical history of Zelda” is completely different from “it’s a cross between Ghibli and the classic JRPG genre!”

One is specific. The other is vibes.

I had a very similar experience at my stepmother’s childhood home more than once. I’d hear someone walking on the other side of the bedroom wall. The problem is that there hadn’t been a hallway on that side of the wall for years, since they’d torn the addition down.
