A thing about modern journalism is that you have to write every article as if you're responding the improv prompt "You've just been hit on the head by a falling coconut."
Gifted | Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth put an end to Black History Month and other celebrations of identity. But St. Patrick's Day got a pass, and some are asking why. The questions come from the troops as well as administration critics. www.expressnews.com/news/article...

The LA Times’ Political Rating “AI” Is A Silly Joke Aimed At Validating Wealthy Media Ownership’s Inherent Bias
Late last year we wrote about how LA Times billionaire owner Patrick Soon-Shiong confidently announced that he was going to use AI to display “artificial intelligence-generated ratings”…

Tips to keep democracy alive in 2025:

1. Be Brave. Avoid helpless/hopeless talk. Authoritarians want you to feel powerless because it makes their work easier. Courage, faith, and optimism are essential. Fascism feeds on cynicism and pessimism. Starve it.

Listen to this.
@brookegladstone.bsky.social 's interview with Mike Gonzalez (Heritage Foundation) was extremely painful. Their exchange shows how a bad faith actor (Gonzalez) has no shame and no respect. I would have hated to be in Gladstone's position. And I interview conservatives for a living.

Political scientists and journalists are trained to be politically neutral in order to demonstrate their objectivity. But when a threat comes from one side, we abandon objectivity in the name of neutrality. The two sides *empirically* do not pose the same threat to democracy, but we pretend they do.

Oh look, another Democratic elected official going all in on normalizing Trump and preemptively accommodating his regime.

It is incredibly deflating that the defense of basic rights and democratic self-government depends so much on people who have nothing but compliance and acquiescence to offer.

Freed prisoner who said he was a victim of the Assad regime was an intelligence officer, locals say | CNN
A man who was filmed by CNN being released by rebels from a Damascus jail was a former intelligence officer with the deposed Syrian regime, according to local residents, and not an ordinary citizen who had been imprisoned, as he had claimed.
