I like a rest break at the 2-ish hour mark on a long trip, but I do love to see the scenery and it sounds like good company! I do hope you enjoy it all 💐

Interesting - same here (NSW, Australia). We measure speed in kilometres (not miles) per hour, but same behaviour. Maybe it's the thought of a big expanse of road I can actually drive fast on! Too tempting for many.

Anecdotal but ... when my late partner had a small business she received an enormous tax bill (more than her annual income). She phoned the ATO "Helpline" 3 times and got 3 completely different answers. She finally paid for an accountant, got another variation, but luckily it stuck.

I'm still waiting to find out one thing that has been improved by privatisation, not just superficially, but systemically too. The answer is always nothing.
