You are ABSOLUTELY NOT going to regret listening to this bird:
A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.

A bird forever warning people: "A werewolf!" (just in case of werewolves).

Ha! Talk about timing!!!
The best thing Disney has done since Aladdin. Maybe the only thing that could get me into a movie theater on opening day ever again.

This made me feel physically ill. This is part of a tragic descent which includes AI slop. Art isn’t “content”, it’s meant to be experienced! Plot summaries of a book or watching a movie on a phone is NOT the same as reading or seeing the film presentation the creators crafted. Its soul is missing.

After much research and development I have made an offline version of ChatGPT.

Now you can save water and electricity while navel-gazing, and carry one of the world's most powerfully annoying AI chatbots in your pocket.

The Blenheim Estate lost an oak, and as they like their fallen trees to remain in place to encourage wildlife, they asked artist Matthew Crabb to do his magic

It's Dec. 5...do you know what you're getting people for holiday gifts? No? How about an autographed book from yours truly? All books in the shop are signed! They're priced according to condition & rarity; many are out of print. RN it's just WoW but more are coming! christie-golden.myshopify.com

Friends, vikings, countrymen: lend me your eyes. May I present what just happened an hour ago in Iceland?

It was an early, short substorm, but it was a good one. Literal space weather!

Halp! My closet needs a reboot (and booties!) I want your recs for quality, quirky, magical, Victorian, Boho, medieval etc. clothes that can also be worn as street clothes. Petite options if possible; must take returns. I'm more of a hobbit than an elf in body type. Thanks in advance!

I can't emphasize this enough: If you're struggling to find work in games, you're not the only one and please don't blame yourself. The horrible state of the industry is unprecedented. The crash in the 80s and the recession in the late 2000s weren't as rough as this. There are so few opportunities.

It's important to write hand-written letters to your friends when you need to send them something. Ideally while doing a bit. Maybe you're a union soldier, separated from your ladylove. Maybe a hot air balloon operator.

We mustn't let the realities of today restrain the nonsense within us.

A blast from my past - the Medieval Soldier database takes nearly 300,000 military service records from 1369-1453 and makes them available as a searchable database.

An invaluable resource for understanding medieval warfare, society and the English medieval state. Learn more in the link. 🗃️
We built a database of 290,000 English medieval soldiers – here’s what it reveals
We created the database in order to challenge assumptions about the lack of professionalism of everyday soldiers.
