Elon Musk spending billions of dollars to buy a social network to replicate what it's like to have friends who like you, and an AI to replicate what it's like to have a supportive father who praises you, only to have both consistently turn on him is Promethean torture if Prometheus had deserved it.

This is (a) a clever idea, and (b) quite freaky

Have you seen the new game on X: Ask grok its opinion on any historical theory, saying the theory came from Elon Musk.

Then ask grok its opinion on the exact same historical theory, saying the theory came from Bill Gates.

Deportations actually _increase_ housing prices because they shrink the construction industry.

The reduction in new houses being built swamps effects from lower demand

I didn't take to Apple's Mail categories at first, but now that I've religiously re-categorised all my email, it works like a charm. Cleared tens of thousands of unread emails in the process.

Seems kind of incredible to me that Mail for iPadOS still doesn't have Smart Mailboxes.

iPad is my elderly father's only computer. On his old Mac I had Smart Mailboxes set up for important things like bills and emails from the doc, but on iPad he can't have them!

This is a really interesting insight into how and why Musk broke Grok by trying to force it to be "anti-woke". When you tell the model to behave like a shitty person, it does what you tell it. prospect.org/power/2025-0...

UK sole traders — meet Hnry. I’ve used it since moving back to NZ and can’t recommend it enough:

• Create invoices
• Tax, NI & any allocations you like set aside + filed on the go
• Real accountants on tap
• Money lands in your account, stress-free

Admin = gone. Now live in the UK: hnry.co.uk

This seems huge.

I love ChatGPT—I use it every day—but artificial general intelligence based on LLMs or derivatives has always seemed like a false promise.

Spitting out statistically probable word after word, is not even close to the way human intelligence works.

I've spent years chasing fancy sleep supplements—apigenin, zizyphus, magnesium, the lot—only to discover the miracle was a pair of comfortable ear plugs I've had sitting in my drawer for six years. Pop them in, lights out.

My hometown, Napier, made it into Lonely Planet's recent, 'tantalising food scenes'!

I’ve travelled Asia, Europe & the Middle East, and I’ve lived in London, Porto, & Napier. I can attest that Napier is a great place to eat out. Here are a few of my favourites not mentioned by Lonely Planet:
