Heritage photographer. Trying to become an archaeologist. Bit of a thing for landscapes, archaeology, movies, music, history, and chocolate. Derbyshire-based.
Pinned
After shooting weddings for 15 years I find myself in my mid-40's and wondering if there's a career in archaeology/heritage I can carve out for myself. If any archaeologists or archaeological society have any digs, projects or workshops going on this summer that they'd like photographing, shout up!
A lovely bit of Derbyshire pride tonight, hearing Mike Haken of the Roman Roads Research Assoc. (@romanroads.bsky.social) talk about the Derbyshire HER as being "...unquestionably one of the best in the country!" Hats off to Steve & Dana of @derbyshirearch.bsky.social, for our ace HER! 🎉

This talk, 'A New Digital Map of Roman Britain' is tomorrow night. Tickets are free. Looking forward to this 😁
Thursday 13 Nov is our next talk. This one is a bit special because our Chair, Mike Haken, is talking about A New Digital Map of Roman Britain: how to access it, how to use it and what comes next.

It's a huge step forward that's taken a decade to develop

Some nice community-led archaeology on the site of Glapwell Hall - 17C on the possible site of a medieval chapel.

We need some help identifying the decorative mount - is it ormolu (maybe from the hall itself?) or just a later reproduction. Any historic furniture experts out there?

Some great-sounding short #heritage and #archaeology courses going on down in #Essex! Bit too far for me, so if anyone hears of anything similar kicking off in #Derbyshire, give me a nod.

Landscape archaeology has always been my archaeological focus. So when I started exploring how I can carve out some sort of career in archaeology, this course by @mercianarch.bsky.social was the first thing I booked on! 5 of the best days! I can't recommend it enough!

My wife & a good friend of ours released this moody, folk-horrory beauty into the world yesterday. With Autumn upon us, this is a great soundtrack to the months ahead.

Inspired by Max Porter's novel "Lanny", the album digs into themes of nature, myth and community.

Whilst I'm not the biggest fan of audiobooks, I'm even less of a fan of the whole "Eurgh, audiobooks aren't real books." gang. #booksky 📚

Had a fab time seeing @profaliceroberts.bsky.social at De Montfort Hall, Leicester last night. Funny, interesting, and a bit more archaeology than I was expecting 😁 Also, I just love listening to people talk so passionately about #history and #archaeology. Wish I could do it every night!

Had the pleasure of seeing this incredible digital reconstruction of medieval Barrow-upon-Trent at a heritage event this weekend. It's kinda mesmerising. Love this level of detail. Grab a cuppa and give it a watch!

There's something quite beautiful about Sir Mortimer Wheeler's box-system excavations at Maiden Castle. Such a fantastic photograph!
