Guaranteed you'd fool most American politicians with this one.

Just learned about this thing in the US called Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, and holy shit it's got Hitler Youth vibes.

This is the stubborn optimism that we need in this day and age.

Not even just for AI either, but for all the issues that currently plague the human race.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by the hideous ubiquity of AI slop I strongly recommend looking at breathtaking art that predates the written word and crying at the enduring beauty of human creativity for a bit.

Plagues, wars and ice ages haven't stopped us, neither will robots who suck at painting.

Another observation about Remembrance Day is how the Yanks call it Veterans Day. It's supposed to be about remembering those who died, needlessly. That's why people wear poppies, because they grew on the graves of dead soldiers.

This might just be the first Remembrance Day where I haven't had a poppy. It's not an oversight, it's entirely intentional.

When I was young, the message was that war is a pointless loss of life that we shouldn't repeat.

Now though, it seems like people are using it to promote war.

One thing I was struck by in the Remembrance Day ceremony was when CBC interviewed a WW2 vet and his message was that people needed to be reminded about the cost of war so that we wouldn't repeat it. I feel like that's not the message about wars past and present that we get from many politicians now

Best Remembrance Day post I've seen yet.
Remembrance Day is EXACTLY the day to be loudly and unashamedly against creating a military war machine

Random thought of the day.

What's the likelihood that Henry Kissinger is in the Epstein files?

Buried in the Doug Ford govt's fall budget are changes that would remove parts of Wasaga beach from provincial protection. As I reported in August, those parts are 60% of the world’s longest freshwater beach and the main nesting area for the endangered piping plover: thenarwhal.ca/wasaga-beach...

This is awesome.
This piece is a little breathless and I can't vouch for all it's claims, but I am sure that the solar revolution in Africa is a huge and genuinely novel economic development

The thing that’s funny: most of the builders I know, unless it’s a special thing or they miscalculated, get their materials delivered to site. If you’re driving you truck you’re not building.
The bumper says 'rugged working man'.

But the cargo bed says ‘cosplay builder with soft hands’.

Time to ban these fragile-man-mobiles from our cities.

When is the world going to do something about these terrorists?
Earlier today, a mob of Israeli Jewish settlers attacked and assaulted roughly 30 Palestinian villagers and activists, plus about 10 journalists who had gathered during an attempt to harvest olives near a settler outpost in the Israeli-occupied West Bank

Amazing take on Generative AI.

"I am here to be rude, because this is a rude technology, and it deserves a rude response."
Nope. Read this, it’s perfect.

“But I am a hater, and I will not be polite. The machine is disgusting and we should break it. The people who build it are vapid shit-eating cannibals glorifying ignorance. I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself.”

I am an AI hater. This is considered rude, but I do not care, because I am a hater.

Is anyone still doubting who wants this generative AI bullshit, and what they want it for?

SCAM ALTMAN

Totally remembering this one.
New article on Sam Altman's long history of abusive, toxic, manipulative, duplicitous behavior (those aren't my words, but the words of people who have directly interacted with him). The guy is a complete conman, worthy of the derogatory moniker "Scam Altman." Read more:

Google paid $2.7b to license Character.AI models and to poach 20% of their staff. This is after Character led a teen to his suicide and has been defending themselves on First Amendment grounds.

These are deeply unethical people.
