Do you really want to save horse racing from going?

It was slightly unclear what your position is. Do you support it being ok for someone to lose a decent amount, e.g. £1500, on a horse with no affordability checks by the operator? Is that your stance?

Statistics show almost one in five people who have used online casino or instant win games in the last year are experiencing 'problem gambling'. Does not mean they have become problem gamblers due to playing slots or problem gamblers are more likely to play slots?

As long as there is balance in what gets funding and no funds are given to anyone found by the Gambling Commission to have misused statistics this could be helpful. A lot of smaller third sector gambling harm prevention operators could do great work with these funds.
Every penny must be audited.

These illegal acts were rightly punished.
November 24, 2024 at 6:12 PM
I am in favour of dog racing and horse racing. There are laws in place to deal with people who act illegally.

Why Charlotte? Both have been part of our culture for centuries.

Would you ever use the animal welfare issue to go after horse racing like the greyhounds?
November 24, 2024 at 12:40 PM
So no guarantees? That is a shame.
November 24, 2024 at 12:16 PM
Is that a guarantee that you will never go after horse racing?

What are your thoughts on horse racing? Jumps in particular? Is the long term goal to end that as well?

Prof Wardle described the NHS health survey as the GOLD STANDARD.

Prof Sturgis on GSGB.. 'non-negligible risk that they substantially overstate the true level of gambling and gambling harm in the population'.

I go with the academics over Rhodes.
November 23, 2024 at 10:06 AM
The GSGB can only be used for tracking changes. Unlike the NHS survey, the underlying numbers cannot be used for estimating population level numbers because of the the sampling method. NHS for absolute numbers. GSGB for comparisons.

Andrew Rhodes? Are you serious?
November 23, 2024 at 9:45 AM
Interesting article Matt. I agree the gambling industry PR people have been terrible at fighting misinformation.

Who said the GSGB was 'new gold standard'? Unlike the NHS survey Its sampling method cannot be used for population estimates.
