We already pay as much rent as mainlanders, food is more expensive and wages are lower. Going to big events isn’t possible for most. We’re becoming one of those tourism destinations where the locals can’t afford to do anything. The stadium will massively accelerate that process.

Makes me wonder if this was the whole point of the stadium, an excuse for extreme austerity measures that were already looming due to the financial malpractice of the current run of Liberal governments. Now the voterbase of the Liberal party will defend it as for the greater good...of the stadium.

Yes, this is entirely the case.
In a time when governments need to learn, they continually demonstrate that they have learned exactly nothing. Government is about being the custodian of the well-being of 26 million people - this is not custodianship, it's incompetence bordering on negligence.
