The risk of an #AMOC shutdown - explained in 15 minutes at the Arctic Circle in Reykjavik on Saturday.
I had the honor of presenting a letter by 44 experts warning of that underestimated risk to the Icelandic 🇮🇸 climate minister Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson.

That was a fab symposium on ice streams, thank you and very well done to the hosts. We also had dinner in a castle and got see Hadrian’s wall and drumlins and sheep and joke about Barnard Castle, oh and some very nice pubs
Reflecting back on how enjoyable it was to host the @igsoc.bsky.social Symposium here at @geogdurham.bsky.social. A big thank you to everyone who attended, presented and contributed to organisation! It was lovely to see so many friendly faces and to hear about some fantastic glaciological science! ❄️

In light of high temperatures and recent collapses in the Alps, we're resharing our 2022 piece from geomorphologist Ludovic Ravanel on mountain stability in the Mont Blanc Massif.

Despite being 3 years old, it contains evergreen advice on warning signs of collapse and areas to avoid in the heat.

What ancient ice sheets can tell us about future sea level rise
When ice gets trapped on land as giant ice sheets, it causes the sea level to change, but it doesn’t change by the same amount all around the planet.

Not forgotten by me, was on the reading list for my third year remote sensing course for many years
Still exploring old paperwork. Here’s a funny thing: apparently I published this paper in 1987, but forgot to add it to my CV so it was never mentioned in any job applications, promotions etc… a forgotten paper! Well, belatedly I’ve put it in the pile now! I wonder what else I did and then forgot.
