I have a friend that plays in one of those Emo Night cover bands and he mentioned to me that everyone else in the band is pretty right wing. It made a weird kind of sense to me.

Elon Musk really does seem like the perfect exemplar of this: he has become the richest man through the performance of all these roles (inventor/scientist guy, ultimate gamer) that aren't actually things that he does. He hired someone to play video games for him for chrissakes!

Which just seems like the ultimate manifestation of both a culture of spectatorship, but also one in which the "idea" of being someone who does something is more important than the actual doing of that thing.

Also I'm pretty sure I believed in Santa, and that I assumed the discovering there's no Santa scene was just something they put in to screw with people.
