You misunderstand, I use an electric kettle like a true American patriot.

It's Brits who went over to the dark side of the microwave.
I was totally in the @gailsimone.bsky.social "just microwave your water for tea" camp until I got an electric kettle after moving here to Uruguay. I'm so sorry, Gail. It's just so convenient.

There's a cartoon about Heston Blumenthal I've been trying to find, if anyone remembers it - very heightened and going "Food is normally served on a PLATE - I have served it ON A WALL". Does anyone have it, by any chance?

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

The economy is incredibly broken. We should move to universal basic income.

hey remember how that one big tech ceo was on a panel in like 2021/22 where someone asked him about how remote work gave a lot more power to the workers and he chuckled and said “yeah well a little recession will take care of that”

I think about that often.
Just fucking insane to see the absolute (intentional) collapse of full remote jobs available for AAA studios in so short a time. Why would I EVER move for a job again when I could be laid off weeks after moving my entire life across the globe??

Don't kid yourselves that Trump voters thought he was innocent. They knew just as much as any of us knew. They just didn't care unless there's so much evidence that they can't pretend otherwise.

I know the answer to this and it annoyed me.
TRIVIA CHALLENGE: The state funerals of three crowned monarchs of England occurred during Elizabeth II's lifetime.

Who are they?

The level of denial required to look at the very obvious fact that very rich white men were doing horrific sex crimes fairly openly and then say "the pedos are actually in the basement of a pizza place and coded as expensive wayfare furniture" is unfathomable.

What comes through in a lot of the emails is how much they hate - really hate - women and girls.

It's as if they hate the fact they're so enfeebled by their attraction to those they perceive to be cheap, dispensible totty, and project that hatred onto them.

I think it's important to note that the guy executing a world historical cover-up of his connection to the worst child rape trafficker of the century is deporting people who have committed no crime and want nothing more than to work hard and pay their taxes.

As I sometimes like to mention, s the only reason you know who Jeffrey Epstein is (that is, if you weren't one of his friends/clients/beneficiaries) is because Ms Brown, below, broke the story of his sweetheart deal to get out of the 2008 trafficking charges.

The Epstein/Trump stuff is coming as a surprise to precisely nobody. If it isn't pushed and pursued, it'll just be brushed off.

Well, it turns out a slightly-awkwardly edited documentary wasn't the worst thing to happen to Trump's reputation even this week.

Happy to be of service. I once got into a taxi in Dublin wearing a cool new outfit. I was nervous about deviating from the norm but did it anyway.

The taxi driver was on the phone when I got in. First thing he did was finish his phone call saying "I have to go, this fella's wearing dungarees"

Went to a @theguiltyfeminist.bsky.social podcast recording on Monday - really interesting discussion on far right Christianity and how it's impacting things here. Particularly interesting since I recently read @swordsjew.bsky.social's book, Wild Faith, which joined a lot of dots for me.

Banning VPNs not only compromises privacy, but it compromises safety. Being forced to use public wifi when travelling without the option of a VPN to make that safe will just lead to compromised computers. All in pursuit of the so-called "Online Safety Act", which achieves the opposite of safety.
The British government admits it is now monitoring VPNs use by UK residents. Regulator Ofcom has contracted with an AI-powered surveillance service to detect the number of citizens using VPNs to evade the Online Safety Act.

The UK tech minister has said a VPN ban is on the table.
Exclusive: Ofcom is monitoring VPNs following Online Safety Act. Here's how
