17m is about the minimum for a road with segregated lanes, otherwise you end up with painted death lanes on the road and nowhere for deliveries, bus stops, parking (I know I know) etc.

eg, these ones all round my way. Now of course wider streets exist. In London they tend to get an inward-bound bus lane as soon as they hit 17m.

At least option 2 keeps you out of traffic. With enough buffer space and some kerb/wands to keep vehicles out it can work. Ref: Loughborough Road in Lambeth.

I broadly agree, but i don't think it'll ever be a popular POV. You could fit a two-way cycle track in the footprint of these trees for example, and it would be incredibly well used. But I don't see that ever happening as they're so well established.
