Husband and dad of three boys. Politics, maths, astronomy, travel, athletics, parkrun and orienteering.
Does anyone else find the laugh response on Facebook annoyingly aggressive when used on serious posts? 🤔

Why is there a big media hooha over the Government's votes for 16? I recall it was in their 24 manifesto, so would be more controversial not to introduce? 🤔

Stunning @parkrunuk.bsky.social at Crosby beach with the Chorley gang this morning and good to bump into the legend @pauls-h.bsky.social up there. Fab volunteers 👏👏🦺

This is "I Put Up Tariffs" 🎶- perhaps the first ever parody song (?) to make reference to the Smoot-Hawley Act of 1930. It's based on #BobMarley's legendary "I Shot the Sheriff" and sung from the point of view of #Trump, unleashing his frenzy of #tariffs on the USA & the world.

Wyoming Republicans have banned so-called “compelled speech” regarding pronouns. No one, they proclaimed, should be forced to use someone’s preferred pronouns. And yet, when Senate Chairman Tim French was addressed as “Madam Chairman”, he was not pleased. Not one bit.

What’s interesting to me about this poll is the huge disparity between Reform and Conservative voters on Trump. We know Reform voters like Trump, but the degree to which Con voters don’t is greater than I’d have guessed.

NEW: The Washington Post has pulled out of an agreement to run an ad in its newspaper criticising Elon Musk. This is despite signing an agreement to publish it.

Democracy dies in darkness.

Here is the ad. Let’s share it far and wide! Screw the Post.

Trump talking about Russia and Putin personally in terms that suggest a partnership - very much not the terms in which he talks about actual US allies, of course.

Nice round-robin trip this morning, out to Wilmslow parkrun for the 1st time (fab volunteer team) then a quick swim at the gym, nip to the office in Manchester for some errands and back for a brew 🍵

For the US, Canada is the geopolitical equivalent of Ned Flanders. Sanguine, neighbourly, generous, basically impossible to annoy.

And yet here we are. Not even a fortnight in.

First time watching City since going to Maine Road with my dad. First time in the Etihad too. Struck by how clean it was and how friendly all the staff are. Great to watch with our sons

Just reflecting on a very wonderful parkrun at Heaton Park in Manchester. The team were so organised, and participants thankful of incredible volunteers standing in minus 5 degree temperatures. Ran in a jacket for the first time in years. A beautiful morning 🏃‍♂️🌳😊

Thank you to all the #parkrun volunteer event teams in the UK working hard to assess courses that have experienced snow and ice, to make tricky decisions around whether they are able to hold events this week🙏🌳🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🦺

What is it that @bsky.app might have that holds back platforms such as Threads and Mastodon from becoming mainstream?

For me, I think the independence from Meta apps network, and ease of use help (easier than Twitter was tbh)

I get why they turn off lighting in the early hours, but they've now taken down the lampposts on the 4 lane M6 Preston bypass (UK's first)🤷‍♂️

Agree with this letter to Speaker Hoyle who is also my MP. This is getting serious. I'm all for free speech but this can't be at the expense of compromising the safety of public/MPs and undermining democracy here and elsewhere.
