Feels like this movie is wrapping up...

I finished reading "A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. One of those novels that gets assigned to lots of kids, but that didn't happen for me. It's basically a sci-fi take on Chronicles of Narnia. Three kids visit some different worlds, maybe learn a lesson.

Taxi Driver (1976) — Only now getting to this one. Not what I was expecting! I mean, I knew it was about a taxi driver who eventually "loses it," but I didn't know that it was mostly going to be such a quiet, lonely, and uncomfortable sort of narrative.

Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) • rewatch — The first time I watched this I felt confused, not really sure what was or wasn't intended to be a joke. Just wasn't ready for it? It helps that I have since watched a couple Wes Anderson flicks, so now I at least get what sort of vibe this is going for.

When Evil Lurks (2023) — Talk about a brutal and mean horror movie. A demon possession flick whose main goal is to kill its characters violently on-screen, and no one—and I mean no one—is safe. One of those films that makes you go, "wow, everyone is screwed," and you'll be right.

A Quiet Place: Day One (2024) — I watched A Quiet Place last year and thought it was okay. Wasn't interested enough to check out its sequel. But I *was* curious about this prequel, mostly because the director (Michael Sarnoski) was the one who handled 2021's Pig, one of my favorite films.

Been playing "Fire Emblem - The Sacred Stones" off and on the past couple weeks. Think I'm about a third of the way through (chapter 7, out of 21 it looks like). It's been nice to play a bit before going to sleep, on my Anbernic.

I've got your nose, Mr. Anderson, and I'm going to keep it.

Aside: IIRC there are three character models for Yukimaru (child, young adult, middle-aged man), and you better believe he ages like a fine wine, a real top 5 handsome guys in gaming contender

I didn't care for the ones I tried, until on a whim I decided to give this one a go: Samurai Warriors - Spirit of Sanada. This one is about Yukimaru Sanada and the Sanada clan of samurai at large. You go through the Sengoku-era battles as expected, but focused on a small group of characters.

(He's also, incidentally, like a top 5 most handsome dudes contender in video games, if I may be so bold.)

3) Folklore, for the Playstation 3 in 2007. This is one I had some nostalgia for, because I played the first level or two from a friend's PS3 in college and thought this was such a fantastic concept for a game and its gameplay. How well does it hold up, now that I finally return to it?

2) Rule of Rose, for the Playstation 2 in 2006. A survival horror I'd been meaning to play for years! Infamous for its pushback in certain regions, and perhaps even more so for becoming such an expensive "holy grail" for collectors in the years to follow. Is this cult classic a true hidden gem?

I try to focus more on #games I enjoy and share them here, but I suppose it's also worth posting my thoughts on titles that don't quite hit the mark for me. Over the past several months, I gave these three games a go, and I'll use this thread to talk about them, because they're still interesting.

Found this tidbit interesting too. I get that it sucked to be a peasant in most places and times in history, but they sure liked to rub salt in the wound in Japan, not even letting you have a family name

I find this one interesting, in that the specific actions taking place for the two same-meaning expressions are opposites (looking away from you vs staring directly at you)

Forgot to post about it, but last month I finished reading "Dungeon Crawler Carl" by Matt Dinniman. Not something I'd normally check out, but it was a book club read.
And yeah, "lit RPG" is definitely not my thing, but it's worth getting out of your comfort zone on occasion, see what's up.
