If you had principles, you would either
1) immediately call for schumer to resign, and work hard to make it happen every day until he does, or
2) resign.
If you do neither you are an enemy of your voters and deserve to be tossed out of office.

kaine and warner are two of the best pieces of evidence for Rotating Villain Theory. they’re both so far below replacement level, i gotta hope VA loses them soon

to be honest i think the long term impact of this cave will just be to accelerate the incoming primaries against dems perceived as willing to work with trump

three of them have announced their retirement, one is almost certain to retire, one is guaranteed to lose his next primary for reasons external to this vote, and tim kaine was chosen as sacrifice to spare warner. rosen and CCM are the odd ones out but they’re not up until 2028/2030

you can count how many republican incumbents actually lost primaries to tea party people: Bennett, Murkowski, Castle, Schmidt, Lugar, Stearns, and Cantor. can you think of others? but the whole party adopted the tea party attitude.

the reality is the tea partification of the democrats is not coming, it has already begun. part of that process is progressives successfully primarying mods but another part is mods adopting the progressives’ position on bipartisanship, ie that it is treason.

if moderates “have to” say and do these things, that means the voters to whom they are accountable actually don’t want bipartisanship. there is no universe in which you can square sherrill and raja’s statements with the belief that they represent a moderate and bipartisan majority among the base

A fundamental asymmetry between Trump and the Dems is that Trump realizes that being seen as weak or a loser is a political catastrophe and does all he can to avoid it, whereas the Dems don’t even understand the danger.

while this is true, i think a lot of the pathology also comes from 2010. i think the lesson a lot of dems learned from 2010 was “america hates us and everything we do, trying to do anything is dangerous.”

dem candidate recruitment in nevada is a shitshow given how reliably blue the state is. often by narrow margins, but still reliable.

Still seems extremely likely to pass but frankly I wouldn’t be surprised if the Dems who are stupid enough to think this is a good deal are also too stupid to count to eight.

I’m smiling imagining how angry Kaine is about Warner and Kelly telling him to fuck off. He has to know he’s taking a career-ending vote here and he wasn’t even smart enough to count heads before publicly announcing it.

i think that the actual situation is “a lot of people spent (or would have spent) their rent/car/utility money on food.” nobody chooses willingly to starve.

what exactly is going on with CCM? is it a sinema/fetterman situation where she knows she’s toast next time she has to face primary voters, or does she think she’s safe? come 2028 she’ll be one of the few faces of the repeated caves still on the ballot, voter anger will coalesce around her.

this account pivoted seamlessly from “these are fake rumors of a deal, people looking for reasons to get mad at dems are just wreckers” to “this deal is actually a good idea, people getting mad at dems are just wreckers”

yeah i mean the stroke is definitely part of it but he was always 1) a zionist and 2) oppositional-defiant in a childish and petulant way. maybe what we’re seeing is an exaggerated version of what we would have gotten even in the absence of the stroke
