What if I’m a narcissist who experienced ego death during an acid trip in high school and so the thing I’m narcissistic about is humanity and life and also the whole universe.

I want South Asians in the diaspora (rightly) paying attention to the excesses of the ICE in the US to talk as loudly about what the Indian govt is doing to its Muslim citizens in the name of border protection.

Odd feeling watching my home country (nuclear power) and its neighbor (nuclear power) radically escalate cross-border bombing in the past hour as my TL floods with conclave gags. Not even a scoldy post - get your yuks. Just exhausting degrees of dissonance on a daily basis this accursed year is all.

It's so funny how "ambition" for so many people just means "trying to make as much money as possible."

Like guys, you only get one life, I can't imagine anything less "ambitious" than using it trying to get a promotion at work so you can afford a boat or whatever.

Humans are very weird and mostly do things because the people around them do them. This is true for me and you and everyone.

Interpreting bland, default human weirdnesses as repugnant, intentional immoralities will 100% make you miserable while alienating people from your ideas.

How am I feeling? It's summed up in this conversation with @madhupai.bsky.social: "I think hope is the correct response to the miracle of human consciousness. I am concerned (and discouraged) in the face of our historical moment. But I refuse to respond with despair."

I will admit to finding the “all problems are caused by evil and we could fix every problem without any trade-offs” worldview pretty draining and immature.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

It would hardly be a new thought to say "we need to work on our critical thinking skills" but I do think it might be worth clarifying that the *point* of critical thinking skills is to be able to create your own meaning out of the things going on in the world.

I know this sounds weak, I know it.

But kindness is one of the few things we carry that can make a difference for each other.

We can’t undo all this hate, but we can still make life a little easier for others.

My deepest take, a rather new one, is that the specialization of modern society both creates and requires ignorance of... a lot.

It is impossible to know all the things, which means there's value in individuals knowing a lot about some things, and those individuals exploit knowledge gaps.

17-year-long Scottish study of 82,000+ adults finds commuting by bike reduces your risk of:
• early death
• hospitalisation for any reason
• cardiovascular disease
• cancer mortality
• treatment for mental health problems.

Yeah, but those LTNs and bike lanes are *really* annoying.
