🌶x🌶=🌶? Making new ones & enjoying the wonder of wild capsicum http://youtube.com/ChilliCrosser #hybrid #plantbreeding #chilli #chili #pepper #wild #capsicum
Tasty peppers but those look like Jamaican Yellow Mushrooms to me as they are a C.annuum species rather than C.chinense. Tons of mislabelled plants and seeds out there from sellers. bsky.app/profile/chil...
Every time I see people confusing C.chinense with C.annuum, often Scotch Bonnet with Jamaican Mushroom, I feel like I should type something. I got fed up of typing, so just made this guide. Most people doubt their plants once fruit forms, time to check what you’re growing. 🌶️✅❌ 🌱

Yes and I’m in the process of making other new stripey things using it.

The burn profile is different to cayenne (C.annuum) and C.baccatum such as this are usually less aggressive.

The small early ones often don’t have seeds but you’ll get some bigger ones soon enough.

Definitely true for C.flexuosum, I get high germ rates on mine. Fresh, well harvested and dried and then well stored makea a big difference.

Yes, it’s a wonderful plant, lots of nice traits. To note for your username, no embryo rescue required for this one. Though anything with C.tovarii in can be frustrating to germinate reliably.

Berries now setting, now for the looooong wait for ripening versus UK outdoor season 🌶️🌱

One of my absolute favourite wilds to grow, except for it being one of the hardest to germinate reliably.

If the goal was to get some purple into C.chinense flowers I’d go with C.rabenii and skip some complications. Not as deep a purple though.

I’ve crossed them with C.cardenasii and C.pubescens, both those are easy. I’ve not personally crossed with C.baccatum but I know people that have, bit of a lower hit rate. To my knowledge they won’t cross directly with C.chinense, you’d have to go via C.baccatum.
